Despite being a gem and a family name, Chalcedony is also a sub-group within the family that covers its uniformly colored members. Its multicolored varieties are all under the Agate umbrella. Popular Chalcedony Quartz gemstones include Agate, Aventurine, Carnelian and Chrysoprase.
Chalcedony is typically translucent to opaque, coming in a huge array of colors. For Chalcedony color is the most important factor, so is the presence of banding, mottling and spots in some varieties. Chalcedony is assessed by judging the beauty and intensity of the colors and patterns present. Usually polished as cabochons, Chalcedony is also frequently used in carvings, cameos and intaglios.
Chalcedony can be found in many countries including Brazil, United States, Mexico and Russia.

Nevada State Variscite Necklace in Silver
Regular price $225.00 Sale price $125.00 Save $100.00State of Nevada Variscite necklace carved out of Nevada mined Variscite outside of Tonopah, Nevada. This necklace measures 18” long with a 1” extension at the clasp and is hand crochet using 100% Refined & Recycled Sterling Silver made in the western USA. The gemstone measures 1” long by just over a half inch at its widest point.
This necklace is created using Nevada mined Variscite from the Desert bloom mine. The mine is located in the Candelaria Mining District in the western part of Nevada near Tonopah and is owned by the Otteson family. This particular mine produces both Turquoise and Variscite. It can be difficult to tell where the turquoise ends and the variscite begins. Some stones appear to even contain both.
✨Variscite can look a lot like Turquoise- the beautiful green kind. Variscite comes in a variety of stunning shades of green. Pale to emerald-green, bluish green, colourless to white, pale shades of brown or yellow, rarely red; Colourless to pale green in transmitted light. Fun fact: Variscite was named after Variscia, an old name for Vogtland, the German district where the mineral was first discovered.
✨
💚✨Variscite is a powerful heart activation stone, helping to release judgement and allowing disparate people and views to be united.
Variscite also helps to release negative thinking and bad habits, bringing clarity to one’s thinking and tranquillity to one’s feelings to enable simple solutions to long standing problems to be found.
✨
It is used to enhance higher brain functions such as learning, logic and reasoning and to help in finding self acceptance.
✨
It can help us to remember past lives and is a good meditation stone because it helps to calm and centre the mind.
✨
Traditionally it has been used to relieve stress and ease the mind of worries and fear. Something we can all probably use right about now.
